Newcastle and Liverpool close the Premier League football year at St James’s Park on Wednesday night. The champions recorded a shocking draw against WBA at Anfiled in the last round and this is a “must-win” game. The Reds are still at the top of the league, although they have only two points in advance. Joel Matip, who suffered an injury, should be fit to face Newcastle, while Gomez and Van Dyke are still in the recovery room.
The Magpies are without a win in four consecutive matches in all competitions, failed to impress in a 2-0 loss to Man City in the last round. Key striker Callum Wilson is back in the starting lineup for the hosts. In their last meeting at the venue Liverpool defeated Newcastle 3-1.
Given the class and current form of both teams, we expect a win for Liverpool and over 2.5 goals.
