Croatia – Czech Republic
18.06.2021
An opening loss to England left Croatia on a back foot in Group D and they will be looking to pick themselves up when they face Czech Republic in the teams’ second outings at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Croatia must win to keep alive their hopes and there’s a lot of focus on them, having reached the World Cup final in 2018. They haven’t posted very encouraging results lately, winning none of their last three matches.
Czech Republic had their shaky moments against Scotland but they held their own and were clinical when they needed to be. Patrik Schick served the moments of magic with two well taken goals and at very crucial moments of the game. A 2-0 win over Scotland in Glasgow provided a dream start to the competition and they will be looking to get their first ever win over Croatia here. In the previous three meetings, Croatia have one win while two ended in draws, but both sides scored in each of these matches.
This game is a tricky one for the two sides. For Czech Republic, a win will be key, given they face England in the final group game. For Croatia, a win will be key to keep their chances of moving to the next stage alive. We thus expect a tight game but with both sides not looking very impressive in defence, both are likely to score. Neither side looks outstandingly strong and a draw is also a good pick.
