Portugal – France

As it stands only France in the so called group of death are assured of a top 3 finish and maybe not even that will be enough for the current world champions. France could only draw 1-1 with Hungary in a surprise result that means their qualification for the knock out rounds is not certain. A draw would be good enough against the reigning European champions and this should be a game to saviour.

Portugal were beaten 4-2 by Germany in their last game after going 1-0 up and it is fair to say that the 2016 champions would have been stunned. It means that they come into this game in 3rd place. Both nations will have to focus on winning their games as Germany would be expected to beat Hungary in the other match.

Portugal have only lost two times from their last 9 games though the worry will be that those two defeats were against high ranked nations in Germany and France, while France come into this match unbeaten in their last 9 games.

On their day both nations can beat each other but we have to remember that Portugal have a poor record against France and have lost 19 times from 27 games. A draw would most probably see both sides qualify, but that can always be risky, but we may see that result for half time.
