It hasn’t been rosy for Atletico Madrid both domestically and in Europe. After their latest loss in La Liga, they head out for a must-win game against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League. Ahead of this Group B game, Porto have five points in second place, while Atletico have four points and are bottom of the group. Porto can only be safe here with a win; a draw may as well work, but it will be dependent on Milan dropping points in their game against Liverpool.
Atletico Madrid are coming from yet another uninspiring show, losing 2-1 at home to Mallorca in La Liga. They have a really patchy run, and going to this game they have just three wins in the last 10 matches. In Portugal, they are faced with a game they must win and it will be tough because the hosts too are gunning for a win to be safe. Atletico have just one clean sheet in the last five matches and their defensive performances could hurt them here. They’ve however failed to score in just one game and will want to extend that scoring run.
These two sides drew 0-0 in the first meeting in this group; a similar result could work for Porto but definitely not Atletico. Both sides basically need to win to advance to the next round, and that is what will be the highlight as they face off. Atletico have been on a poor run and especially in the Champions League. Playing away from home will not favor them a lot, and they face a side with a better run. Back Porto to win.
